Waramadong humiliate Paruima 6-0

Digicel Schools Football Championship

The reigning Region 7 champions Waramadong Secondary School is now closer to making the national playoffs after inflicting a 6-0 drubbing on Paruima on Sunday, at the Waramadong Community Centre ground.
Waramadong took the lead after thirteen minutes when Nadir Walker’s expertly struck corner-kick curled past the outstretched hands of the surprised Paruima custodian and into the back of the net.

Both teams were guilty of easily losing possession through lack luster passing, but the respective defenses quelled the many opportunities created until Waramadong made it 2-0 through a wonderful piece of speed and skill.
It all began when Alvon Hunter raced on to a ball sent through from centerfield delivered on the right flank and blew past two defenders, before burying his right-footed strike into the far corner.
That goal came in the 21st minute of play and it opened the floodgates.
The fleet- footed Javin Castro increased their advantage two minutes later when he was left unmarked following a squared ball from the left side, and in one motion swept a thunderbolt of a left-footer past the motionless goalkeeper.
The score remained 3-0 until the break as the home crowd vociferously applauded their boys.
Coming out in the second half, Paruima needing to respond urgently went on all-attack mode and paid the price for neglecting their defensive duties.
Their strategy of pushing forward more players left their backline exposed and Waramadong’s Colin Edwards proved too fast and elusive to stop as he sprinted on to a long ball, before firing past the stranded custodian in the 38th minute to make it 4-0.
The goal fest was stopped momentarily, but resumed in the 66th minute when Reon McNaughton was left isolated in a goalmouth scrimmage and he gleefully poked home into the net.
Two minutes later, Castro returned to complete his brace with a powerful strike from close range to seal the victory in emphatic fashion.
The Waramadong side will now move on to play Bartica in the Regional final tomorrow at the Leonora Synthetic Track facility, West Coast Demerara.
The winner of that encounter will then move on to the national playoffs.
