1 arrested after brazen daylight robbery

Moments after executing a brazen daylight robbery on a Chinese Supermarket along Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, one of four armed men was cornered and apprehended at Guyhoc Park, with the assistance of public-spirited citizens.

According to reports, the four men armed with handguns entered the supermarket at about 12:00h under the pretext of making a purchase. After some time one of the men pounced on the cashier, demanding that he hand over his mobile phone and other valuables, including cash.

The other gunmen reportedly ordered the other employees and customers to lie on the floor. After robbing the supermarket, the men escaped on pedal cycles. The owner of the supermarket explained that during the robbery, he attempted to contact the police via 911 but to no avail.

The police he noted arrived after the bandits had escaped but reviewed the CCTV footage taken of the robbery.

However, the men were subsequently cornered by residents who contacted the police. Several shots were discharged by the bandits but the police managed to arrest one of the men who had some of the stolen items in his possession.

The others escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash, phone cards, cellular phones, jewellery and other items.

The police are searching for the others.
