Regal defeat Speedboat in Wolf’s Challenge Softball Cup

Action resumed in the Male Open category of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) organised Wolf’s Challenge Softball Cup with Regal XI beating Speedboat by seven wickets in a high scoring match.

Speedboat had first strike and got to 136/9 from their 15 overs with Delroy Perrera taking 3 for 22. In the run chase Regal got to 141/3 with one ball to spare with Samuel Kingston top scoring with 39 and Chien Gittens making 31.

The Female Open category also had some action with two fantastic matches.

Wellwoman defeated long-time rivals 4R Lioness by 6 wickets. 4R Lioness took first strike and made 104-3 from their 15 over with Tameka Wilson hammering 44. In reply, Wellwoman raced to 105-4 in 11.4 overs with the hard hitting Latoya Smith striking 47 with admirable support form Zola Telford 30.

Also in winners row were the Blue Divas who destroyed Enterprise Divas by a mammoth 111 runs. Blue Divas batted first and got to 146/9 from 15 overs with Sangetta Sawh making 39. The run chase for the Enterprise Divas never got going and they were eventually bowled out for 33. Sangetta Sawh came back with the ball to claim 4 wickets for 2 runs to cap a fine all round game.

There were also four matches in the Masters Category

Wellman made light work of Albion Masters with a 9-wicket victory. Albion Masters batted first and posted 147 All Out in 20 overs. H. Hassin made 37 and J. Bojh chipped in with 31 as Lakeram Singh bagged 3 for 25 and L. Kallicharran 2-20. Led by Lloyd Ruplall 65 and Ramnauth 53 Wellman hurriedly got to 150/2 from 13 overs.

H.S Masters defeated Floodlights by 7 wickets. Floodlights stumbled to 143 All Out with Clive Canterbury making 34 with Ricky Deonarain 31 and Richard R. Persaud 29 chipping in. Ricky Persaud picked up 2 wickets for 12 runs bowling for H.S Masters who then made 148/4 from 16 overs to win by 7 wickets with four overs to spare. R. Samaroo and Danny Samaroo made 38 apiece while D. Mohanram 33, C. Hoyte 24 and Heralall 23 not out were all among the runs. Richard Persaud removed the gloves to claim 2 wickets for 7 runs.

Floodlights narrowly got past Tropical Springs by 1 run. Floodlights led by Wayne Jones with 76, Ramesh Narine 42, Imtiaz Mohamed 39 not out and Richard Persaud with 30 posted a challenging 215 for 3 from their quota of 20 overs.

In reply, Tropical Springs finished on 214/9 when their 20 overs ran out. Lalta Gainda made 45 and Vijay 35 while Clive Canterbury 3-28.

In the final game of the day, Parika Defenders beat Fisherman Masters by 42 runs. Parika posted 196 all out with Aftab Khan 46 and Belam Singh 45. In reply Fisherman were bundled out for 154 with S. Dyal making 33.

Meanwhile, the tournament continues tomorrow at Malteenoes Cricket Club Ground, Thomas Lands with the following four matches in the Masters Category;
