1 arrested at Parfaite Harmonie for Festival City carjacking

– stolen car recovered

Police have arrested one person in connection with a carjacking and armed robbery which occurred on Thursday last, at Hummingbird Street and Blue Mountain Road, Festival City, Georgetown.
The man was taken into custody after the stolen vehicle was recovered at Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
It was reported that on the day in question, Hemchandra Hoolas, a 40-year-old taxi driver of Bee Hive Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD, was asked to make a pickup at Pike and Sheriff Streets, Campbellville.
Upon arriving at the location, three persons entered the vehicle and requested to be taken to Festival City, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
While in the vicinity of Festival City, one of the passengers whipped out a handgun and instructed the driver to stop and exit the vehicle, and he complied.
The suspects, two men and a woman, reportedly drove off with the man’s vehicle. Apart from the Spacio motor car, a cell phone was also taken by the men.
The matter was subsequently reported and based on information gathered by the Police, ranks proceeded to a location at Parfaite Harmonie, where they found the stolen vehicle. One male was arrested and he remained in Police custody, assisting with the investigation.
