1 arrested following discovery of improvised shotguns, ammunition

A 58-year-old resident of Hoff-Van-Aurich Backdam, Essequibo Coast, Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region Two), was taken into Police custody after two unlicensed firearms and a magazine with seven live rounds of ammunition were found in his possession on Saturday.

According to reports received, at about 14:00h on the day in question, Police ranks swopped down on the home of the suspect and carried out a search during which two improvised shotguns and the ammunition were unearthed. One empty cartridge and two dismantled weapons were also found.
Upon the discovery, the suspect was immediately arrested as Police continue their investigations.

Only recently, a 49-year-old boatbuilder was arrested after he was found with an illegal shotgun at his Jacklow, Upper Pomeroon River home.
It was reported that Police acting on information went to the man’s home and conducted a search during which the firearm, matching ammunition, and drugs were found.
The 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun was found hidden behind a gas stove.
The man has since admitted that he has no documents for the weapon and ammunition and as such, he was arrested. Both men are expected to make their court appearance in the new week.
