A motorist is dead and his pillion rider is battling for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) following a collision with a motorcar on Monday night.

Dead is Neil Nunes, 47, of Lot 81 Belle West, Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara. Injured is 35-year-old Nichola Garnette.
Reports are the duo was proceeding east along the southern carriageway of the Canal Number Two Public Road on motorcycle CJ 8132 when they collided with motorcar PVV 1097, which was proceeding in the opposite direction. According to Police, following the impact, both victims were thrown from the cycle but were quickly picked up and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where they were examined and transferred to the GPHC. However, Nunes succumbed to his injuries at about 02:00h on Tuesday. A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar but there was no trace of alcohol. He remains in Police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
