10th Independence 10K/5K Road Race set for May 24

The Guyana Ex-Athletes and Friends Incorporated, in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), is set to stage the 10th Guyana Independence Road Race programme on May 24 as part of the country’s Diamond Jubilee Republic Anniversary celebrations.
The event will feature one-mile races in the Under-9 and Under-12 categories along with 5K and 10K road races. The events are scheduled to start and finish at the Eve Leary Ground, Guyana Police Force Sports Complex.
The one-mile races will begin at 14:00h ( 2:00pm), while the 5K and 10K races are slated for a 16:00h (4:00pm) start.
Organisers have announced that registration for the event will be free to all runners, while every participant will receive a medal upon completion of their respective races.

The event is being staged with support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) and the AAG.
Participants will also have the opportunity to compete for several prizes, including cash rewards, tablets, bicycles, backpacks, and water bottles.
One of the featured attractions of the meet will be the “Stanley vs Burgette” Diamond Jubilee 5K fun road race.
Runners across all age groups are encouraged to participate in what is expected to be a family-oriented athletics event aimed at promoting fitness, recreation and community involvement through sport.
