One day after a stabbing incident at the Tuschen Secondary School, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), the Police have confirmed that a 14-year-old student was taken into custody as investigations continue. According to reports received, at about 10:10h on Thursday, two 15-year-old students, one from Tuschen Housing Scheme and another from Greenwich Park, EBE, were reportedly attacked and stabbed by the suspect during an altercation on the school’s premises.
Police stated that the victims were reportedly standing together during their break time in the school compound when they observed two female students engaged in a scuffle.
The victims attempted to intervene but were threatened by the suspect. The victims then informed the headteacher, but they were again threatened by the suspect.

A scuffle broke out between one of the victims and the suspect, during which the victim received wounds to his left hand and upper chest area from the suspect, who was armed with a sharp object – reportedly a screwdriver.
The second victim then intervened, and he too received injuries to his right hand. Upon realising what was happening, several teachers intervened and apprehended the suspect.
The injured students were taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where they were treated and released.
The suspect, who had fled the scene after the incident, was subsequently contacted by Police, informed of the allegations made against him, and arrested in accordance with the procedures applicable to juveniles.
He was then escorted to the Tuschen Police Station, where he was placed in custody as investigations continue.
Following the incident on Thursday, the Ministry stated that it has launched an investigation into the matter and that a teacher at the centre of the issue has been sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
