$15M in ATVs handed over to strengthen CPGs patrols

Community Policing Groups (CPGs) in five regions have received new all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to improve patrols and emergency response efforts in remote and difficult-to-access communities. The Home Affairs Ministry on Thursday handed over five Kawasaki ATVs, purchased through a $15 million Government investment, to CPGs serving Mabaruma in Region One (Barima-Waini); Onderneeming Sand Pit in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Wakenaam (Zeelandia) in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Cotton Tree in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), and Toka in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).

During a ceremony at the Ministry’s Brickdam office, Deputy Permanent Secretary (PS) Dwayne Adams presented the vehicles to representatives of the respective groups. The ATVs are expected to improve the mobility of CPG members during routine patrols, provide better access to communities, and support quicker responses to incidents. The initiative, the Ministry said is part of the Government’s continued efforts to strengthen community policing and enhance collaboration between CPGs, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and local stakeholders in addressing crime and improving public safety. The Ministry said the investment will assist community policing groups as they continue to support safety initiatives across Guyana.
