Local football coordinator and former National coach Lennox Arthur will be returning to the West Coast of Demerara with an Inter-ward Nine-a-side football tournament in honour of former Georgetown Mayor Hamilton Green’s 83rd birthday.
The village of Den Amstel will see two days of action at the community ground as eight sides will battle for bragging rights, a trophy and a winners’ purse of $70,000 while the runners-up will be compensated with $30,000 and a trophy.
The playing dates for the tournament are set for Sunday (January 28) and February 4 at the Den Amstel Community ground. On Sunday eight matches will be played with the winners advancing to the quarter-final stage to be played on February 4 at the same venue.
The quarter-finals, Semi-finals and final will all be played on the same day.
No entry fee is required for the teams; all teams are asked to be present at the playing venue at least an hour before scheduled kick-off time. In addition four substitutes are allowed per team and each game will last 30 minutes with a half being 15 minutes. If at the end of full-time scores are tied, the winner will be decided via sudden death penalty kicks.
The sixteen teams are; Jetty, Plaisance, Zeelugt, Kuru Kuru, Wales, Sara Lodge, Crane Rovers, Soesdyke, Pouderoyen, Bagotsville, Crane, Friendship, Uitvlugt, Vegae Boys, Den Amstel and Tiger Bay.
