The Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) tightened their grip on their second-round West Indies Four-Day Championship contest against the Windward Islands Volcanoes with a dominant Day Two showing at the Antigua Recreation Ground, closing on 361-8 – a lead of 210 runs with two wickets in hand.
Resuming from their overnight position of 130-2, the Harpy Eagles built steadily before accelerating through the middle order, led by half-centuries from Kemol Savory and Keemo Paul, along with a composed contribution from all-rounder Richie Looknauth.

Savory top-scored with 72 from 157 balls, striking nine fours in a patient innings that anchored the middle phase. He shared key partnerships after the early loss of Captain Tevin Imlach, who added just five runs to his overnight score before falling for 9 off 37 deliveries. Paul then injected momentum with an attacking 56 from 87 balls, including seven fours and one six, while Looknauth supported effectively with 42 from 114 deliveries, hitting six boundaries.
Earlier in the day, Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s resistance ended after a painstaking marathon 35 off 196 balls, an innings that included one boundary and spanned over four hours.

The Volcanoes’ bowlers toiled with moderate success. Kenneth Dember was the most effective, claiming 3-82 from 32 overs, while Shadrack Descarte supported with 2-59 from 26 overs. Ryan John (1-50 from 24 overs) and Kavem Hodge (1-13 from six overs) also chipped in, but the Volcanoes struggled to stop Guyana’s momentum.
At the close, Veerasammy Permaul was unbeaten on 25 from 68 balls, while Shamar Joseph provided late support with an unbeaten 10 from nine deliveries, ensuring the Harpy Eagles finished strongly and in a commanding position heading into Day Three.
Day One had set the tone for Guyana’s control after they bowled out the Volcanoes for 151, with Nial Smith leading the charge with 5-36. The Harpy Eagles then laid a solid foundation with the bat, reaching 130-2 at stumps, before their middle order extended that advantage significantly on Day Two.
