17th annual Victor Macedo cycling set for Sunday

The William Howard-led Flying Stars Cycling Club will host the 17th annual Victor Macedo Memorial Cycle Race on Sunday, September 22.
The race, which will attract all the top cyclists in the country, will pedal off at the outer circuit of the National Park.

It will begin in front of the big tree on Vlissengen Road near the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) onto Carifesta Avenue into Camp Street and onto Thomas Lands before going into Vlissengen Road for the finish. The event is 30 laps which are equivalent to 120 kilometres or 74.56 miles. A total of 10 primes will be up for grabs and the top six cyclists in the open category will be awarded.
In the other categories: the veteran top three cyclists will receive awards as well as the mountain bikers. With Briton John in red-hot form on the highways winning two races in two days during the last weekend. He won the race at the inner circuit at the National Park and followed up with a win in Berbice. The likes of Jamaul John, Michael Anthony, Paul DeNobrega, and Berbice boys Andre Green and Romello Crawford will be looking to bring their A game.
Deeraj Gharbharan has also been in top gear along with Marcus Keiler, who will also pose a threat for the top spot. In the 2018 event, which was held along the Homestretch to the Highway route, Curtis “Chappy” Dey won after dominating the open category. Veteran Ian Jackson won the vets category while Jude Bentley was the mountain bike champion.
