198 students complete GDF Work-Study Programme

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has concluded its 2026 Work-Study Attachment Programme, with 198 students gaining practical experience across the Force’s bases, departments and units. The programme was conducted in two six-week phases and included students from the University of Guyana (UG), Carnegie School of Home Economics (CSHE), Government Technical Institute (GTI), Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) and several secondary schools.
During their attachments, the students worked alongside military and civilian personnel, applying knowledge from their respective areas of study while gaining experience in discipline, responsibility, teamwork and professional conduct. According to the GDF, the programme also provided participants with exposure to the range of professions and specialist roles available within the Force, giving them a broader understanding of military service and potential career opportunities.

At the closing ceremony, participants were congratulated for their conduct and presented with certificates of participation and cash stipends. The GDF said the programme is intended to equip young Guyanese with relevant skills and professional values while strengthening their understanding of service to Guyana. It also serves as a link between education and national development by exposing students to career opportunities within the GDF and helping prepare them to contribute to the country’s development.
