2 injured after shed collapses at Infectious Disease Hospital
Two construction workers were on Tuesday morning injured after a shed collapsed due to heavy winds at the Ocean View Hotel which is presently being renovated to function as a COVID-19 hospice care facility.
Anthony Lowe was killed after a building collapsed at Banks DIH
The injured men have been identified as Deodat Persaud and Alexander Rohart.
According to information received, the shed was in the process of being dismantled when it suddenly collapsed, pinning the two men underneath.
The men were quickly rescued and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where they were medically examined.
Persaud was treated and sent away for minor injuries while Rohart is said to be hospitalised with severe head injuries.
The men are employed with Ivor Allen Construction Services. When contacted, Allen stated that it was an old shed and that the men should not have been under it in the first place.
“I am hopeful that they are going to be fully recovered – both of them and I have asked my supervisor to conduct an investigation,” she stated.
Since the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Guyana, the caretaker Government has been retrofitting the flood-prone Ocean View International Hotel, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, into a COVID holding facility.
Less than two weeks ago, Anthony Lowe was admitted in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after a building collapsed on him and four others at Banks DIH, Ruimveldt, Industrial Site.
However, after spending six days in the ICU, the 27-year-old father of four succumbed to his injuries. Also, in that incident, 61-year-old Jagmohan Bissessar, a carpenter of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was killed.
Both men worked for a private company, which was contracted to dismantle a building at the warehouse of the beverage company.
