2 nabbed with over 1400 grams of ganja in Bartica

A labourer and a pork-knocker were arrested after they were caught with a quantity of cannabis, which they claim was for their boss, on Saturday.
The 24-year-old labourer resides in Charlotte Street, Georgetown, and also Philadelphia, Berbice, while the 27-year-old pork-knocker resides in Stanleytown, Berbice.
Reports received stated that at about 16:10h on the day in question, Police ranks acting on information visited First Street, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), where they observed the two men acting suspiciously.
As the policemen approached the two men, the labourer started to run but was pursued by the police ranks. At the time, he was carrying a black haversack.
He along with the pork-knocker were subsequently taken to the Bartica Police Station. A search was then conducted on the haversack during which three bulky parcels were unearthed.
Upon examining the contents of each parcel, the police discovered a quantity of ganja. The men claimed that they were taking the illegal substance to their boss but they have failed to divulge the identity of him.
The parcels of narcotics were weighed and amounted to 1454 grams. The two men are being processed for court.
Less than one week ago, two labourers and two miners were nabbed by Police ranks in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) during separate raids at households and in a minibus.
A total of 4876 grams of cannabis was seized by the police during the operation on Tuesday while the four men were arrested for possession of the illegal narcotic.
Around 05:30h on the day in question, a party of Police officers went to the residence of a 25-year-old miner of Beverly Hills Drive, Region Nine, where a search was conducted.
Ranks discovered 16 zip lock bags and two plastic bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems amounting to 223 grams.
An hour and a half after the miner’s arrest, the police team visited the home of another miner, a 45-year-old man of Tabatinga, Central Lethem, and carried out a search on his person.
They found nine zip lock bags containing a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds and stems amounting to 11 grams when weighed.
Additionally, the ranks conducted searches on two occupants of a minibus on the Main Road in the vicinity of Manari, Lethem.
Ranks searched a 20-year-old labourer of Hope, West Enmore, East Coast Demerara, and found in his possession a black plastic bag containing a quantity of cannabis weighing 435 grams.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old labourer of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was found with four parcels wrapped with brown scotch tape.
Upon examining the contents of the parcels, the police discovered a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds and stems amounting to 4207 grams.
