Two unvaccinated men who were infected with the novel coronavirus have died, taking the country’s death toll to 1258.
The latest casualties were aged 66 and 73, and both resided in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
Meanwhile, the country has recorded 144 new cases of the virus, taking the total number of cases detected to date to 67,843.
There are 39 persons hospitalised, two of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while 700 persons are isolating at home. In institutional quarantine, there are two individuals. Total recoveries stand at 65,844.
Meanwhile, the rollout of the second doses of COVID-19 vaccines for children aged five to 11 will commence this week, and parents have been urged yet again to get their children vaccinated.
Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony on Tuesday had said that 4000 children between the ages of five and 11 have already taken their first doses. However, there is still a lot of work to be done to boost these figures.
Meanwhile, in the 12 to 17 age group, 35,006, or 48.1 per cent, have taken one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Of this number, 25,647, or 35.2 per cent, are fully vaccinated.
Adult vaccination is progressing slowly. First doses stand at 442,872, or 86.5 per cent, while second doses are at 343,640 or 67 per cent. Additionally, 68,984 booster doses were administered.
