A 22-year-old man on Saturday lost his life following an accident along the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Anthony Patterdin of Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
Reports are that Patterdin lost control of his vehicle on Friday evening at about 22:30h and slammed into a utility pole.
Enquiries disclosed that the motor car was proceeding east along the northern side of the LBI Embankment Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver of the vehicle lost control and collided with a utility pole on the southern side. The vehicle travelled some distance before landing in a nearby trench.
Public-spirited citizens rushed to Patterdin’s aid but he was trapped in the vehicle. They managed to free him from the badly damaged vehicle by which time EMTs arrived at the scene. The 22-year-old, who was the lone occupant in the car, was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted a patient in a serious condition. However, at about 01:30h on Saturday morning, he succumbed to his injuries. His body has since been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem. (G12)
