High-powered guns, ammo, drugs found in South Ruimveldt
In a successful intelligence-led operation, ranks from the Guyana Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department and Narcotics branch discovered a cache of high-powered firearms, ammunition, and narcotics in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The operation, conducted between 18:00h and 21:30h on Tuesday, focused on an alleyway located at Park Place, South Ruimveldt, bordered by a playfield and three houses.
The police found a pink suitcase hidden under some zinc sheets in a clump of bushes. Inside the suitcase, the ranks discovered two AR rifles, one black and one black and blue, along with a Ruger 9mm pistol and a Taurus 9mm pistol, each with a magazine.
Additionally, the suitcase contained various scopes and sights, including a BSA telescopic sight, three ATN Viper telescopic sights, and a Bushnell range finder.
The cache included a significant quantity of ammunition: 319 rounds of 9mm, 106 rounds of .380, 156 rounds of 12-gauge cartridges, 925 rounds of .223, 20 rounds of .270WIN, 33 rounds of .68, 76 rounds of .45, and 117 rounds of .44 ammunition.
Further searches in the same alleyway led to the discovery of a large black plastic bag containing suspected cannabis. The narcotics weighed approximately 3.20 pounds.
The firearms, ammunition, and narcotics were photographed and logged as evidence. Ballistics testing will be conducted on the firearms, and investigators are currently pursuing two individuals in connection with the case. An investigation has been launched. (G9)
