3rd Urban Benjamin Memorial Race set for Sunday in Region 2

The Evolution Cycling Club will be staging its 3rd Urban Benjamin Memorial Cycle Race this Sunday, August 18, on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two.
Scheduled to start at 9:00h outside the Charity Primary School, this race will head to Supenaam and return to the starting point for its finish, covering a distance of 74 miles.
All of Guyana’s top cyclists are slated to participate in this race, and a furious battle for supremacy is anticipated.
In the 2018 edition of this race, team Evolution’s Christopher Griffith stormed to victory ahead of 32 other competitors in the Seniors’ category in a time of two hours, 59 minutes and 53 seconds (02:59:53).
In the Under-45 category of that same race, Warren “40” McKay bested Junior Niles; while, in the Over-45 category, Ian Jackson emerged supreme over Andrew Spencer and Amit Sankar, who settled for second and third places respectively.
In the Juniors’ category, Adelie Hodge defeated Ajay Gopilall and Ralph Seenarine, who finished second and third respectively; while in the Mountain Bike category, Ozia McAuly defeated Quincy Punch and Holio Melville into second and third place respectively.
The entrance fee for participation in this race is $2,000 per person. Cyclists desirous of participating in this race but needing transportation to Essequibo are asked to assemble at the National Sports Commission on Homestretch Avenue at latest by 6 hrs on Saturday August 17, 2019. The bus will depart promptly at 6:30 hrs, and the vehicle transporting the bicycles would be gone with it.
All participants are hereby being cautioned that they would be responsible for their own accommodation and meals in Essequibo.
Kindly note that the return ferry departs at 16:00 hrs on Sunday and it is the responsibility of each cyclist to be ready and on the bus for the return trip at 13:00 hrs.
This event will cater for Elite Racers, Masters and Juniors/Juveniles.
