4 Lindeners charged with breach of COVID-19 orders

Four Lindeners who appeared virtually before Magistrate Wanda Fortune on Friday were granted bail for breach of restriction on social activities.
The alleged violators pleaded not guilty to the charges and were given their pre-trial liberty in the sum of $10,000 each.
The matters were adjourned until June 26 for the commencement of trials.
Meanwhile, two other persons were charged with breach of the countrywide COVID-19 curfew that is presently in place, however, they did not appear in court. These matters were also adjourned until June 26.
Almost forty persons have been placed before the Linden Magistrate’s Court so far as Police in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) continue the crackdown on persons in violation of the national curfew and restrictions on social activities.
This has resulted in fines ranging from $5000 to $20,000 while a number of perpetrators have been sentenced to community service.
