The recently-commissioned town of Bartica is slated to see improvements in the community’s tourism sector with the construction of the Golden Beach Boulevard project.
Bartica Mayor Gifford Marshall told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the project provides investment opportunities for young people. The contract for this project was one of seven that were signed earlier this year under the Communities Ministry’s Community Infrastructural Improvement Project (CIIP). The works for the Golden Beach Boulevard was awarded to contractor Ivor Allen at a cost of $40.8 million.
The Bartica Mayor was quoted by the DPI as saying that the project was 40 per cent complete, highlighting that five mini-marts were constructed and that works commenced on the walkway. Marshall observed that the walkway would be powered by photovoltaic (solar) panels, noting that there would be solar lighting in place.
“We have a number of applications for the marts, but that process will be completed in two weeks and we are looking forward for the completion of this project,” Marshall said.
It was reported that the town was also making moves to relocate vendors from the market extension at First Avenue. Mayor Marshall said that construction works to the municipality would cost approximately $10 million, and he noted that the entire project was expected to be completed before the end of the year.
The Beach Boulevard is a collaborative effort between the municipality and stakeholders, and is part of a wider waterfront development project, which is being undertaken by the Bartica municipality. The Bartica Golden Beach Boulevard project commenced last month.
