Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) continued its roll-out of regional competitions with the Region Six Ancient Regional Tournament” tipping off on Tuesday afternoon at the New Amsterdam Hardcourt in Berbice.
In the Girls’ Division, Vryman’s Erven Secondary and Tutorial Academy played to a low-scoring but entertaining 16–16 draw. The highlight of that encounter was the sibling rivalry on display between Venicia Myers and Jelicia Myers. Despite playing on opposing teams, the sisters featured in starring roles. Venicia scored all 16 of Vryman Erven’s points while Jelecia posted 14 points and grabbed four rebounds for Tutorial Academy in the stalemate.
Game two saw Skeldon Line Path ease to a 23–10 win over JC Chandisingh Secondary courtesy of a player of the match performance from Dequone Ross. He scored nine points and collected three rebounds, with Daniel Duke adding seven points and four rebounds in a supporting role. JC Chandissingh’s Denaldo Henry had five points and five rebounds in a losing effort.
Berbice Educational Institute got off to a successful start, defeating Vryman’s Erven Secondary 16–8. Kirton Byron was the engineer of the win with nine points and three rebounds.
The most dominant performance of the day came from the Berbice High School team, who crushed New Amsterdam Secondary 54–11, saving the best for last.
Avion Kesney was in full flight, netting 21 points and snatching three rebounds while Shamron Jafer (12 points) and Gettson Matteson (eight points) provided reliable support. New Amsterdam’s best performer was Kyle Reid, who had five points.
The Region Six Ancient Regional Tournament will continue in the coming weeks with more matches scheduled for the Berbice region.
