The Nalico/Nafico-sponsored Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Senior Men’s knockout competition continued on Tuesday night with a double header in group stage action at the Plaisance Community ground, as Beacon Football City (FC) and Vengy FC kicked off their respective campaigns with contrasting victories.
Playing in a Group C encounter, Beacon took on North Star FC in the opening match of the night and just held firm to walk away with a 2–1 win after a testing second half. With Beacon controlling the opening exchanges, they enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the first half and duly used it to their advantage, scoring twice in 10 minutes to lead 2–0 heading into the halftime interval.
Winger Stayon Murray put them ahead in the 26th minute before Antwoine Vincent found the back of the net in the 35th to put daylight between his side and North Star. However, the second half was a much different ball game as North Star dug deep in both attack and defense; their hard work rewarded in the 83rd minute through substitute Yonick Norton, but it was too little too late as Beacon held on to seal a narrow win.

Meanwhile in Group D, Vengy emerged 1–0 winners over Black Pearl FC after a testing midfield battle which saw both sides failing to unlock each other’s defence for a scoreless first half. It was more of the same in the second half, but substitute Francisco Hernandez would give Vengy the lead in the 68th minute. They would hold on to that lead to take maximum points by the final whistle.
The tournament is being played in a group stage format before heading to the knockout rounds.
Group A features Camptown, Eastveldt and Northern Rangers, while Group B is made up of Riddim Squad, Ordis and Genesis FC. Group C comprises Beacons FC, North Stars and Motherland, and Group D consists of Black Pearl, Vengy and Pele FC.
The competition continues today, Thursday, April 30, at the same venue with another double header. The night kicks off with a Group A fixture featuring Riddim Squad vs Genesis at 19:00h, while Camptown FC will face Northern Rangers FC at 21:00h in a Group A clash.
