42 horses confirmed for Budhans’ Memorial meet

The deadline for registration for this weekend’s Budhan’s Memorial race has been extended to today. However, horse owners took the opportunity of early registration that saw 42 horses being entered so far for the one-day event at the Budhan’s Memorial Turf Club and Sports Complex at Number 66 Village Corentyne.

Horses are fine tuning their preparation for this weekend’s big meet

However, prospective competitors did not enter as they were not getting in enough practice due to unsuitable grounds caused by rain and the organizers have since put alternate arrangements in place. As such, the deadline for registration is pushed back to allow horse owners the extra time to access their horses before making a decision ahead of Sunday November 12 big showdown.
In all, there are six races on the card with the “J” and Lower covering a distance of one mile being the featured event for the day. The winning purse is $160,000 while the second place finisher will ride off with $80,000 and $40,000 will go to the third place finisher.
The other events are for horses classified “K” and Lower and “L” and Lower while there will also be two unclassified races and a spicy race for non-winners.
Among the entries to date are; Strike Again, Daddy’s Dollar, Victoria Secret, Red Region, Something Special, Call she is Royal, Lucky Lucky, Uprising, Up Front, Irish Boy, Baby Girl, Machine Girl, Plane Land, Royal Spice, No Surprise and Red Wessel.
Organizer, Compton Sancho confirmed that the track will be in good shape since the ground staff have been working round the clock after the recent rain.
The event is particularly important to jockeys who will be looking to cash in ahead of the busy Christmas season.
Admission is $1,000 and there will be trampoline, music, a well-stocked bar and food from the Hot and Spicy restaurant to add to the overall family fun day. The first race is at 13:00h.
