5 arrested after body of missing man found floating in river

Five persons, including two female Venezuelan nations, have been arrested following the discovery in the Aruka River of the body of a man who had gone missing. The body was found at the Kumaka Waterfront in the North West District (NWD) of Region One, (Barima-Waini) on Thursday.
The body has been identified as that of 34-year-old Shaheed Mohamed, a fisherman of Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice, Region Six.
Police investigations have revealed that the man’s body was found at about 8:00h on the day in question floating in the river. It was positively identified by the boat captain and other crew members as that of Mohamed Mai, also known as Shaheed Mohamed.
The Police were summoned to the area, and during inspection, marks of violence were seen on the right side of his neck and on his right eye. The body has been taken to the Mabaruma Public Hospital mortuary to await a post mortem.
The now dead man was reported missing on Tuesday last by the boat captain of Lady URANIA, of which he had been a crew member.
It was reported the Mohamed was last seen in the company of two female Venezuelan nationals two nights prior to a missing report being made. Investigations have led to the two females being detained, along with three crew members of the boat Mohamed had worked on.
The five persons are being questioned as Police continue their investigations.
