Home News 5 in custody for brutal assault on Black Bush labourer
Five men found themselves in hot water on Sunday after they reportedly beat a 29-year-old man of Johanna South, Black Bush Polder (BBP), Corentyne, Berbice.
Gregory Bhola, a labourer, is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Based on reports received, the man’s father, Errol Bhola, told Police that, on the day in question, he was informed that five men were beating his son. Bhola said he immediately went to enquire, and upon his arrival, he saw the men – one of whom was armed with a cutlass, one with an iron bar, and the other three with pieces of wood – beating away on his son.
The pensioner recalled asking the five men the reason for the brutal assault, but they allegedly responded, “Stay out of the matter, or else we will kill him.”
The elder Bhola was then told by one of the men to kneel, and when he refused, he too was assaulted and pushed to the ground.
The men reportedly took the young man to a nearby yard and continued the assault. At that time, the father went into his vehicle and drove to Mibicuri Police Station, where he reported the matter. He was accompanied to the scene by Police officers, and they immediately escorted Gregory to Mibicuri Public Hospital. He was examined by a doctor, who subsequently transferred him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was further examined and admitted as a patient at the ICU. His condition is listed as critical. Checks were made for the men, but they had reportedly disappeared from the scene.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a team of Policemen went to Bound Yard at Port Mourant Corentyne Berbice, where the five men were spotted and arrested. They are presently in custody at the Whim Police Station, and are assisting with investigations.
