5 men succumb to COVID-19

…59 new cases detected in 24h, active cases now stand at 3907

The Health Ministry on Monday announced that five men who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died, thus taking the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 875.
The patients were admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at medical institutions. Samples were taken at the time of admission which subsequently returned positive tests.
Three of these persons were unvaccinated, one was partially vaccinated while the fifth’s status is unknown.

UnknownHowever, new statistics provided by the Ministry showed that 59 new cases were recorded in one day with the total confirmed cases in the country moving to 34,514 – 16,329 males and 18,185 females.
There are 24 patients in the designated Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 3722 in home isolation, 127 in institutional isolation and six in institutional quarantine. The data showed that 29,766 patients have recovered from the life-threatening virus while 338,892 have been tested.
A breakdown showed one new case for Region One (Barima-Waini); 21 for Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara); 19 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); four for Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne); eight for Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and 12 in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
There were no new cases recorded in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice); Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
Active cases are at 3907. There are 107 hospitalised cases across the country, inclusive of 72 at the Infectious Diseases Hospital. There are 24 persons in the ICU and six maternal cases.
“We’re seeing an increase in cases in Region Three, Region Two, Region 10. These are the areas where we see cases going up. We have to be careful in those regions and make sure that people are adhering to the precautions and getting vaccinated,” warned Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony on Monday.
Vaccination statistics show a 373,398 first dose uptake or 72.8 per cent. Second doses are at 231,729 or 45.2 per cent of the adult population. For the Pfizer vaccine, 26,391 doses or 36.2 per cent have been administered to children; with 17,379 children returning for their second dose.
Regional first dose uptake is 79.1 per cent for Region One, 59.3 in Region Two, 69.1 per cent in Region Three, 81.6 per cent in Region Four, 72 per cent in Region Five, 73.5 per cent in Region Six, 72 per cent in Region Seven, 45 per cent in Region Eight, 73 per cent in Region Nine and 32.5 per cent in Region 10.
