56th Republic Anniversary flag-raising ceremonies across regions

Guyana today celebrates its 56th Republic Anniversary, with several flag-raising ceremonies held across the country over the weekend. The celebrations were themed: “Expressing Our Culture Through Innovation and Creativity.” In Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hugh Hilton Todd along with National Security Advisor Gerald Gouveia; and regional leaders participated in the Republic Day Flag Raising Ceremony. In Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), Amerindian Affairs Minister, Sarah Browne delivered the feature address at the Regional Democratic Council’s (RDC) 56th Republic Anniversary Flag Raising Ceremony on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the RDC of Region Four (Mahaica-Berbice) hosted a flag-raising ceremony on Friday at its office in Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Minister within the Housing Ministry, Vanessa Benn, attended the event and delivered the feature address. Guyana became a republic on February 23, 1970. The annual observance commemorates the country’s transition to republican status and highlights national unity and development.
