8 arrested during Police operation at Goed Fortuin
Eight persons, including a 23-year-old labourer, were arrested on Saturday following a Police operation at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Police in a statement related that between 12:30h and 13:10h on the day in question, some Police ranks went to the home of the labourer to conduct a raid for drugs, guns, ammunition, and stolen articles.
When ranks arrived at the said location, the labourer was contacted and was told of the purpose of the exercise. He was also told that based on reports received, he was in possession of narcotics, guns, ammunition, and stolen articles. They then requested to conduct a search.
The suspect reportedly acquiesced and as such, invited the ranks into his home to conduct the search.
During the search, one bulky black plastic bag with ganja was unearthed along with one complete X-Box game system with eight discs, one BLU mobile phone and one pair of binoculars.
The labourer was then questioned about the items found, but he could not give a reasonable explanation as to how he acquired them. As such, he was cautioned and arrested.
In addition, the detectives carried out a further search behind the said building where seven persons were found hiding. They were arrested and taken to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, along with the suspected cannabis and other items found.
The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 30 grams. The men remain in custody as Police continue their investigations.
