86-Y-O killed in Providence accident

An 86-year-old man was on Monday killed after he was struck down by a car on the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Dead is Neville Williams of New Scheme Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to Police reports, the motor car – PYY 114 – was proceeding along the Providence Public Road at about 21:30h on Monday when the driver claimed that the now dead man walked across the road into the path of his motor car.
Due to the close distance, the driver said the front left side of his motor car collided with Williams.
As a result of the collision, Williams fell onto the roadway where he received injuries about his body. He was picked up in a conscious condition by the said driver and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead.
His body is presently at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
Police said that the 52-year-old driver of the motor car was taken into custody as Police continue their investigations.
