8th annual PowerAde cycle race pedals off today

Champion cyclist Jamal John will look to defend his title against a host of top riders, come Sunday when the 8th annual PowerAde 46-mile race pedals off.
Cycling action will light up the West Demerara roadways from 08:30h from Schoonord; then proceeding to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo before returning to the point of origin for the finish.
John, of Team Coco emerged victorious and was crowned champion of the Open race last year, while other winners in last year’s event included; Jason Cameron (juniors), Junior Niles (veterans), Keon Thomas (mountain bikes) and Denacia Welch, female category.
Apart from the top six finishers of the Open race being rewarded, prizes are also set for the top three riders in the other categories. Eight sprint prizes would be up for grabs following the end of the day’s action.
