Gunman in $8.9M casino heist jailed

As a lengthy trial concluded at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Magistrate Judy Latchman on Monday found a Bagotville, West Bank Demerara (WBD) resident guilty of the $8.9 million heist at the Ramada Princess Casino.
Wayne Griffith was charged, along with Andre Blackman and Junior Stewart, for the April 29, 2016 robbery. On Monday, while Griffith was found guilty, Blackman was freed after he was found not culpable for the offence. Stewart was recently freed after it was found that there was no evidence against him.
The charge stated that on April 29, 2016 at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) while being in the company of others, and armed with guns, Griffith robbed Daniel Roberts and Alfea Gajadhar of $8.9 million, property of Ramada Princess

According to reports, in the wee morning of April 29, 2016, four gunmen stormed the Princess Casino about 03:45h and discharged several rounds as they relieved patrons and staff of cash and other valuables. They held a security guard on duty at gunpoint and took away his shotgun and several rounds of ammunition.
The men ordered everyone to lie on the ground and relieved the cashier of the $8.9 million. After hearing that he was found guilty of the charge, Griffith refused to answer further questions from Magistrate Latchman. He told her: “I have nothing more to say in this court, hurry up and give me a sentence; let me go downstairs.”
Magistrate Latchman after considering the fact that persons were injured during the robbery, jailed him for five years.
