Taylor disappointed with Eagles’ performances

– believes 2019 will be better

The Eagles team bowed out of the Under-23 division of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball (GABA) League in what can be classified as one of the most unfortunate ways of losing as they settled for fourth place in the tournament.
Following a successful season in the preliminary stages of the tournament, the Eagles had a few hiccups that resulted in them not qualifying, after they were tipped to take the Under-23 division.
Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, Eagles Coach Courtenay Taylor stated that he was disheartened that his side did not make the final as he believed they should.
In a previous interview with this newspaper, Taylor said that the side has been

playing well, but play was not up to the standard that was set for the team. He went on to explain that even though the team were playing at a high level, there were some aspects of the game that have to be corrected for the team to be at that elite level, which separates them from the rest of the competition.
According to Taylor, in terms of not advancing further than third place it came down to some slight mistakes, owing to the team members being relative new to each other. Although they learnt from each other’s playing style pretty well, there were some minor things which still had to be ironed out.
He went on to state that he knew the team would do better in 2019 as he was constantly trying to improve his coaching skills on a daily basis, as he was aware that he needed to stay vigilant and focused during the games while working on the development of the players. Taylor also noted that for new players in the team, they must have an open game, be willing to learn and enjoy the game.
In closing, the Coach said for 2019, they were going to increase the intensity of their training drills and foster better communication with the players, so they would play as a team when competing.
