A 74-year-old pensioner was taken into custody on Wednesday following the discovery of a 12-gauge shotgun at his Hague Back, West Coast Demerara (WCD), residence.
Police stated that a team of officers went to the location after receiving reports of gunshots being heard in the area.
However, upon arrival, the pensioner was contacted, and a search was conducted of his residence, during which a 12-gauge shotgun was found concealed between a bed and mattress in the lower flat of the premises.
Following the discovery, an air rifle was also handed over to the ranks. The pensioner, when questioned, could not produce a firearm licence, and as such, he was arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station, where he remains in custody pending further investigation.
