Devon George scored his maiden first division century to help the University of Guyana (UG) set a competitive first innings’ total of 272 on the first day of their two-day clash against Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO).
The right-handed George accounted for eight fours and five sixes in his even 100, the team’s top score after winning the toss and deciding to take first strike.
He shared in two significant partnerships during his knock: first adding 69 for the second wicket with Melroy Stephenson (38), then 64 for the fourth wicket with Omesh Danram (40).

Ray Newton (26), Suresh Danhai (22) and Dennis Heywood (21) also contributed to their team’s total in the latter part of the innings.
Replying, GYO were in a spot of bother on 132-6, still trailing by 140 runs when the umpire called off play for the day at the Malteenoes Sports Club Ground in Georgetown.
