A Creole Rock Christmas

– Mendonca releases news song titled ‘Hung Up On Your Cross’
Gavin Mendonca’s “Creole Rock Snow Ball” continues to grow as we roll into Christmas. The homebred Guyanese musician has released his second studio project – a four-song EP titled “Hung Up On Your Cross” out of Kross Kolor Records.
The EP, although released for the Christmas Season, is not a typical Christmas record. While the songs are not directly aimed at Christmas, they revolve around the main themes of Christmas in Guyana: love, family, togetherness and tradition.
The title and artwork of the EP plays on the ‘cross’ which represents all of his dreams and ambitions, which he will carry with him forever, not as burdens, but with love.
These tracks include:
Hung Up On Your Cross – this is the title track of the EP. It is about one of the main feelings – unwavering love. More so, it is about the ultimate Christmas gift – falling in love with the girl of his dreams.
Refuse To Go – this is Mendonca’s favourite. This song is influenced by the iconic Guyanese folk song “Small Days’. Mendonca’s birthday happens to be Christmas Eve so Christmas time has always been extra special for him. This song is about always remembering the child inside, the original you; to know that you are never alone because he/she never left, but just grew up a bit. Mendonca’s jokingly warns “Don’t grow up, it’s a trap!”
Cause Is Christmas – this song has become a Guyanese Christmas classic over the last few years, first featured on ‘Kross Kolor Records: Christmas With Us Vol. 2’ back in 2015. A festive song about Christmas in Guyana.
How To Build A Tree House – this is another song that is actually a bonus feature, and a sneak peek into Mendonca’s next full length studio album – Creole Rock: Punks and Pirates – scheduled to be released in April 2018. Not so long ago, Mendonca spent a number of days at Kaieteur Falls where he filmed a music video for this song, which will be released in January of the New Year.
A music video for the title track is currently in production and will be released just before Christmas. For the video, the talented guitarist partnered with Ransford Simon, who was the best graduating student of the Certificate Programme at the ER Burrowes School of Art in 2017.
The EP is currently available as a digital album only, and can be purchased for US$4.99 by visiting www.creolerock.com/store. All are encouraged to support the local creative industry, and the artistes who pour their hearts and souls into their work; not for big money, but for the love and satisfaction of accomplishing their dreams.
