Accused gold chain thief remanded

An accused gold chain thief was on Monday remanded to prison for allegedly stealing a $50,000 gold chain from a woman in the vicinity of Commerce Street, Georgetown on May 21 last.
But Marlon Williams, 31, of Lot 266 “B” Field, Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara (ECD), denied that he robbed Dharshanie Ramsook.
The charge was read by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The court was told that Ramsook was walking in the vicinity of Commerce Street, Georgetown when she was approached by Williams, who ordered that she be quiet.
He then proceeded to remove her chain, after which he made good his escape.
An alarm was raised, and he was allegedly captured shortly after the incident.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore objected to bail being granted the defendant based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offense.
Bail was denied. The case will continue on June 25.
