In the first of the two finals, Vanguards defeated Castrol Strikers in two clear sets avoiding the third and deciding set. Those sets finished 25-19 and 25-18. Meanwhile, consistent performers Achievers, made like work of the Castrol Strikers male unit. They claimed the five set match in three sets, winning 25-12, 26-13 and 25-21. Achievers looked superior from the start as Castrol Strikers lacked tactics to triumph.
However, there was one issue on the night where Castrol Strikers females were displeased of how organisation of their final was managed. They believed that the match should have continued from where it left off on Sunday night as they were initially told. If not the runners up believe they should have been properly informed of the new procedures which are intact with the World Governing Body for Volleyball, the Fédération Internationale de Volleybal (FIVB).
On Sunday the final started and Castrol Strikers were up one set and trailing in the second. Unfortunately, there was a power outage at the Gymnasium and the final was rescheduled to Tuesday with both teams acknowledging they will replay the second set and if needs be then they will go on to the third. However, after the organisers researched FIVB rules a decision was made to replay the entire match.
President of GVF John Flores apologize on behalf of his federation, stating that henceforth there will be no such mistakes.
Flores said his aim for 2017 is to let it be known that volleyball is around. According to the President he is elated at the number of young participants and he encouraged the senior players to do the necessary to keep the juniors in the sport.
