Action heats up in GUMDAC Badminton tourney

The GUMDAC 5th Annual Open Doubles Badminton Tournament kicked off last Friday at the National Gymnasium with some top performances from Guyana’s best racquet wielders.
In the Men’s Open Doubles, Nicholas Bullen and Veerendra Bhagwandin defeated the pair of Sekher Mallampati and Isaac Mallampati:, two sets 21-11, 21-14. Open Men’s Double saw Jonathan Mangra and Ronald Chang Yuen whipping the Under-13 Champions Matthew Beharry and Vikash Mootoo: 21-8, 21-8.
The Open Men’s doubles quarter-finals witnessed veteran William Holder and Haymant Ramdhani beating off the likes of Akili Haynes and Russian Based Chet Bowling in an exciting three setter: 21-16, 18-21, 16-21
Ernesto Choo-A-Fat and Javid Rahaman beat Nicholas Bullen and Veerendra Bhagwandin two sets; 21-11, 21-15, while Darrell Carpenay and Marlon Chung whipped Gokarn Ramdhani and Dr. Nicholas Waldron: 21-9, 21-16
Darrell Carpenay and Chung then got the better of Ernesto Choo-A-Fat and his partner Javid Rahaman: 24-22, 21-8 in the Semis of the Men’s Double.

Ayanna Wickham-Watson & Emelia Ramdhani defeated Jayde DaSilva & Deandrea Assing: 21-6, 21-2
Open ladies doubles finals:
Priyanna Ramdhani & Shivannie Persaud defeated Ayanna Wickham-Watson & Emelia Ramdhani: 21-15, 21-15.
