Petra/Corona Football tournament
After a prolonged halt due to the inclement weather, the Petra-organised Corona Football Tournament will return this weekend with six matches, with today seeing the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground at Bourda being turned into a football fiesta with a highly anticipated triple-header.
The opening match will see the hungry Pele FC in search of their first win when they play Eastveldt at 17:00 hrs.
After this match, Santos will face a winless Riddim Squad, from 19:00 hrs; while, at 21:00 hrs Northern Rangers will battle Flamingo, the opponent against whom they drew their last match.
On Sunday, the home side will clash with Black Pearl, from 17:00 hrs; and this will be followed by Western Tigers going on the prowl.
On the opening night of the tournament, Santos FC played fluid and attacking football to convincingly beat Pele FC 4-0, while Rangers needed a goal on both sides of halftime to beat Eastveldt 2-0.
The tournament is being played on a round-robin knock-out basis, with two groups of six teams.
The top four from the respective groups will advance to the knock-out phase.
The teams are playing for a first place prize of one million dollars and championship trophy, while second to fourth-placed teams would pocket $400,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
