– Bishops’ High girls continue dominance
In the National Schools Basketball Festival’s feature game of the night, the Adult Education Team came from behind in a spirited effort to upset the more experienced St Roses High School boys team 31 to 29 points at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Shamar Keiler scored a game high 8 points along with 4 rebounds and 4 steals, while Terrence Ardain and Dominic Fields added 7 points each for Adult Education.
St Rose’s Anthony Yansen was his team’s top scorer with 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Mark July added 8 points.
The Bishops’ High School Girls continued to show why they are among the best women’s unit in the country, dismissing the hapless St. Roses High females 32 to 7.
National U-19 player Demelza Nicholas top scored with 14 points, Kesann Charles scored 8 and Ruth Sanmoogan 6 for the Bishop’s High team.
St Rose’s best performer was junior national player Ashley Khan, who scored 6 points.
The Bishops’ Under-19 boys followed suit by battling their way to a 47-38 points’ victory over Tutorial High. While Stefan Hamilton top scored with 9, Shamal Beaton’s 8 points and 13 rebounds proved decisive for Bishop’s.
Zion Gray scored 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Denzil Logan added 12 points for Tutorial.
President’s College gained a walkover on St. Joseph’s High, who forfeited their game.
The final set of first-round matches will be played tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall beginning from 16:00hrs, with the girls of School of the Nations looking for a victory when they face the St Rose’s High School unit, while their male colleagues will look to upset the St Rose’s Males as well.
