Albion CCCC officially launches 10/10 tournament

The Albion Community Centre Cricket Club (Albion CCCC) has officially launched its second division cricket competition, which will take the form of a 10/10 tournament that bowls off from 9:00 hours on Sunday August 4, 2019 at its historic ground on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice.

At the media launch of this tournament, a simple but significant ceremony held on Tuesday last at the Albion Community Centre Ground, it was revealed that the winning team would receive a trophy and $50,000, while the runner-up team would receive a trophy and $30,000.
Outstanding performers would also thus be recognised: a trophy will be awarded to the batsman with the most runs across the tournament, and the bowler with the most wickets in the tournament would be awarded. A “player of the final” would also be awarded a special trophy.
Eight teams will be participating in this tournament, the finale of which is slated to be played under international-standard floodlights. The teams are Fyrish Cricket Club, Chesney Cricket Club, Jai Hind Cricket Club, Tamarind Root Cricket Club, Belvedere United Cricket Club, Hamid Xi Cricket Club, Albion Community Centre Cricket Club and the Kendall’s Union Sports Club.

The fixtures are as follows:
Round 1: Tamarind Root vs. Kendall’s Union
Round 2: Chesney vs. Albion Round 3: Fyrish vs. Belvedere United
Round 4: Hamid Xi vs. Jai Hind
Semi-finals: Winner of Round 1 vs. winner of Round 4 Winner of Round 2 vs. winner of Round 3
Finale will feature winner of semi-final 1 vs. winner of semi-final 2.
The primary purpose of the Albion CC is to develop and promote the game of cricket for the benefit of its members and the citizens of Guyana as a whole. The Albion CC aids in the promotion of cricket development among cricket clubs in the Albion community and outlying areas.
The Albion Community Centre CC has a well-organised, disciplined and vigorous training programme for its members. Training is conducted by the international and national cricketers of the Albion CC. Qualified guest coaches are also invited to conduct training sessions.
All training materials are provided by the club. In addition, the club provides uniforms and gear to members who represent the club in competitions and tournaments.
The training programme is not confined to cricket and physical development. Albion CC imparts to its trainees knowledge on the laws of the game, public-speaking, social graces and etiquette, social habits, and development of high self-esteem, among other things.
Membership is open to all persons over eight years old, irrespective of race, ethnicity or religion. An application form must be completed and a parent or guardian must sign for applicants below the age of 18 years old.
