Albion teenager killed in early-morning accident

The Arjune family of Albion, East Berbice/Corentyne was thrown into a state of mourning when their youngest child, Mark Arjune, was killed following an early Sunday morning accident on the Strathspey, East Coast Demerara road.

investigations revealed that, around 04:40hrs, the driver of motorcar PPP 6666, Dellon Davison, 29, of William Street, Kitty Georgetown, was under the influence of alcohol and was proceeding east along the roadway at a fast rate when he swerved to avoid hitting a cow and crashed into a GPL post.
Arjune, front seat passenger in the vehicle, sustained severe internal injuries, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Another passenger of the car was identified as 36-year-old Allen Batson of Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown. He, too, was injured, but is said to be in a stable condition; while the driver was treated for minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Mark’s elder brother, Kevin, said he received a call at around 05:00hrs, informing him of the accident. He immediately rushed to the GPHC to investigate. He explained that when he arrived at the hospital, he was told that his brother was in a critical state.
“When I reach at the hospital, I asked to see Mark Arjune and the nurse tell me to sit. And when I sit I still ask to see my brother, and they say that a doctor have to come and talk to me. So when the doctor tell me what is he state, I still asked to see him; and when I saw him, he was already dead and on a bed,” Kevin related.
“I go and try to wake up he and shake he up, but his face and headback had lil bruises and so, and my brother didn’t make it; he died. I called my parents and told them, and they came home, and then he was taken to the mortuary,” Kevin added.
Mark had recently moved to Colidingen, ECD to take care of the family’s chicken business; and according to the property owner, Mala Looknauth, he had left home at around 23:00hrs on Saturday with a group of friends, heading in the direction of the city.
She said the accident occurred a few metres away from his home. “I was shocked when I woke up this morning to hear that Mark die… His parents come this morning and make all the arrangement for his body and funeral to Berbice,” she related.
The Police have said their investigations are ongoing.
