An Albouystown, Georgetown man, who told the court that he uses cannabis for medical purposes was on Monday released on bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Keon Yhap of Lot 137 Campbell Street, Albouystown, stood before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The charge alleged that on August 3, 2019, at Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, the 21-year-old had 22 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution’s case presented by Prosecutor Adunni Innis stated that at 11:45h, Police ranks from the Brickdam Police Station went to Leopold Street to carry out a raid exercise when they met Yhap and conducted a search.
While conducting a search on Yhap, the ranks found 25 small transparent zip-lock bags wrapped in a black plastic bag in his right side back pocket.
Yhap was arrested and taken to the police station, where the narcotics were weighed in his presence.
The defendant in his address to the court stated that “It was only 21 grams and I use it for medical purposes”.
Having listened to his address to the court, a no guilty plea was entered. The Magistrate ordered the defendant to “stay out of trouble young man” and released him on $10,000. The matter was adjourned to September 23, 2019.
