Dead: Jumal Parks

Screams erupted from the Parks’ home on Tuesday as the unconsolable family tried to find some sort of strength to explain what might have led to the beating to death of 16-year-old Jumal Parks, known as “Cherio” of Lot 162 Non Pariel Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.
The incident reportedly took place at about 10:05h, at Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Based on reports received, the act was committed by a 19-year-old labourer of Hunter Street, La Penitence, an 18-year-old unemployed male of West Ruimveldt along with a 17-year-old unemployed male of East La Penitence, Georgetown.
Police said that Jumal was at his place of employment – Wanita’s Wash Bay located at Front Road, West Ruimveldt, when he was approached by the three suspects.
One of the suspects, who was armed with a piece of wood, visited the car wash and reportedly called out to the now dead teen. The teen did not pay heed since he was working but the suspect advanced towards him, thus resulting in him running into a nearby yard where he was stabbed to the left side chest and his right upper arm.
The stabbing was reportedly done by the 19-year-old while the others dealt him several blows about his body with pieces of wood.
At the home of the dead teen, his sister, Aneisa Parks, explained that her brother was most likely killed in relation to an old grievance whereby he attempted to make peace between some youths who were involved in a fight a few days ago. She said that her brother meant no harm.
“The problem came about because he has a little friend who is 15-year-old and he is 16-year-old…some boys slapped his little friend. So, he turned and tell the boys ‘don’t slap that boy, that boy is a lil banna than you’,” the sister explained.
This caused the suspects to become angry, according to the sister, and as such, they reportedly told him “you gonna see what I gonna do to you”.
However, on Tuesday as Parks was working, the three boys approached and began throwing objects at him. In his defence, the now dead teen began to pelt bricks at them. When he was out of bricks, he began to run away, his sister said.
“He run into an enclosed area and there is where they stabbed him in his heart, lash he with a four by four wood in the head. The four by four come first because he collapsed on the ground and then they bore he,” the sister explained.
“My brother live with me for some time. The only thing with he is he mouth, but who don’t get their mouth but he is a loving person…I can’t understand how my brother died so senselessly. I can’t explain. It really hurting me,” the sister explained.
Meanwhile, the young man’s father, Brent Parks, is calling for justice for his son.
“If I can’t get justice, I gonna stand up and see if I gonna spend my last dollar, you hear, I swear to God, I want to see justice. Because if I don’t see justice, I gonna take my own justice. I don’t care…but I want the police to do their job. My son, he ain’t deserve this. If he did bad, I wudda understand.”
When this publication visited the crime scene, the owner of the home in which the young man ran for cover said she was in her house when she heard loud screams from the owner of the car wash. She said, initially, she thought it was a robbery, but upon checking, she saw the teen running towards her house.
“I see he running for he life, and three boy behind him. One with a baseball bat, and two with a weapon… they put two lash in him and he fall down here, get up back and he run into the apartment and they corner him in there and that was it. He drop, and when he raise up. As he run you could see the fear in his eyes…” she explained.
Jumal was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead. His body is currently at the GPHC’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old suspect was arrested and is in custody. The police are on the hunt for the other two suspects as investigations continue.
