Albouystown teen remanded for armed robbery

As Guyana continues to grapple with an escalating crime wave that is spiralling alarmingly out of control, Wednesday’s session of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts saw an Albouystown teen being arraigned for robbery under arms.
The charge, read by Magistrate Fabayo Azore, alleged that 18-year-old Kevon Ridley, on March 24, 2017, in the capital city of Georgetown, while in the company of another and armed with a dangerous weapon (a gun), robbed Virtual Complainant (VC) Linden Roberts of three gold chains valued $360,000.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne strongly objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the crime, as well as the penalty attached to such a felony.
She added that the teen had admitted to Police upon his arrest, his involvement in the commission of the crime. Bail was refused.
The matter will continue on April 19.
