All set for Chutney competition this weekend

On Saturday evening, the Better Hope Community Centre Ground will come alive as the finals of the Chutney competition is being held. Presently, 10 well-versed artistes are expected to take to the stage, bring their A-game.
The semi-finals of the competition were held two weeks ago and based on their performances, 10 of the best were given the green light to move ahead.
Those advancing are Arjit Singh with “Sangeet Bhagee”; Pooran Seeraj – “Roti and Dhall”; Young Bill Rogers – “A tribute to chutney”; Tony Cutt – “Neighbour Roti”; Christopher Ramphal- “Sweet Bai Talk”; Bunty Singh – “She Want me be she Raja”; AW Lyrical – “Seven Curry”; Vicadi Singh -“Mousee and She Tassa” and the lone female, Vanita Willie – “A Mother’s love”.
These artistes will compete against reigning Chutney Monarch, Steven Ramphal, who is ready to defend the title. He will be performing “Jo Sangeet Main Gaata”— a song that promotes love and unity. The competitors will be backed by Shakti String Orchestra.
Apart from the actual competition, patrons will be treated to some first-class acts by Trinidad’s Chutney sensations, Adesh Samaroo and Saleem Beharry. Both artists are known for their energetic performances.
The action gets underway at 20:00h. Admission is $1000.
