Alleged drunken driver who slams into parked truck

A cyclist who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol is presently nursing injuries at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) after he reportedly slammed into a parked truck on the La Jalousie Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD), on Friday evening.
Ramjit Sookanand, 35, of Leonora, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was said to be making his way home at around 22:45h when the incident occurred.
Guyana Times understands that the victim spent the night imbibing with friends at a popular bar before deciding to venture home on his bicycle at around 22:25h.
However, while doing so, the man reportedly crashed into a parked truck along the La Jalousie Public Road, WCD.
After colliding with the truck, eyewitnesses revealed that the cyclist was flung from his bicycle and fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by a group of public-spirited citizens and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was admitted and treated.
According to the police, Sookanand received injuries to his head, neck, arm and other parts of his body. He is, however, said to be in a serious but stable condition.
The matter is being investigated.
