Alleged narco trafficker charged

A man who was last week busted at Sussex Street, Georgetown with a quantity of narcotics was on Tuesday taken before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of trafficking in narcotics.

Morano Wilson, 22, of Parfaite Harmonie, West Coast Demerara, was charged for being in possession of 4.64kg of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

He denied the charge which stated that between January 6 and 7, 2017 at Sussex Street, he had the cannabis in his possession.

However, according to his Attorney, Dexter Todd, the cannabis was not found on his client’s person but rather he was called by Police to identify a package that he had shipped after which he was charged with the offence.

He explained to the Chief Magistrate that his client was unaware that the box contained the cannabis.

The prosecution is adamant that the package belonged to the defendant and told the court that he admitted to such in the presence of Police.

He was remanded to prison until January 27.
