Ally secures 3rd term at Lusignan Golf Club

Anasha Ally was re-elected President of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) for a third term at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 13, 2026, with improvements to the club’s facilities and wider participation in golf among her priorities.
Ally, who attended the meeting via Zoom, will lead an executive tasked with strengthening the club’s membership, overseeing its operations and activities, and supporting the development of golf in Guyana.
Joseph Szeplaki will serve as Vice President, with Chetwynd Bowling as Secretary and Bala Vinjimoor as Treasurer. Princessa Wilkie is the Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, while Brian Hackett will serve as Ground Superintendent. Ayube Subhan is the Club Captain and Dr Joaan Deo the Public Relations Officer.
Speaking after the AGM, Ally acknowledged that personal challenges over the past year had prompted her to reflect. She said the executive had, nevertheless, remained committed to developing Lusignan into a top-class facility.

“As I begin my third term with this new executive, our vision is to build on the progress we have made and take the club to an even higher level,” Ally said.
Planned works include improvements to the clubhouse, fences, driveway and golf course. Course maintenance will focus on treating trees, improving the greens, and controlling pests.
The club also intends to acquire a second greens mower. Ally pointed to its previous collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, under which the two parties contributed equally towards the purchase of the current mower.
Drain-clearing works and measures to address dry-season water shortages are also on the agenda. Ally stressed that an adequate water supply is necessary to maintain the course in good condition.
Beyond its golfing activities, the club plans to strengthen its appeal as a venue for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions.
Ally also reaffirmed the club’s commitment to increasing participation among women and young people by creating more opportunities for both groups to become involved in golf.
The plans form part of Lusignan’s wider work to promote the sport in Guyana through competitions, membership development and initiatives that encourage greater participation.
